Can you feel the heat?
As it turns out, some of the healthiest and longest-living people on earth do - regularly.
I’m talking about the healing powers of heat… specifically, a sauna.
Did you know ... some form of the sauna appears in just about every culture in the world? Steam rooms, sweat lodges, and temezcal ceremonies in Europe, South America, and beyond.
Could a treat as luxurious as a sauna really be good for your health? It sounds too good to be true, but this is one instance where you can indulge guilt-free because sauna bathing is an excellent addition to your healthy lifestyle.
And it’s no coincidence. Heat, when used skillfully and therapeutically, can potentially extend longevity.
That’s right: It’s no wonder these routines and ceremonies have become part of so many peoples’ traditions, just like saunas in Scandinavia, for example.
According to studies performed in Finland, people who partake in more sauna sessions live longer than those who take fewer or none at all.
Today, we’ll take a look at why sauna use has become such an integral part of many cultures (including how the sauna is the only way to achieve a passive cardiovascular workout…. essentially: you’re exercising by doing nothing.)

How does the sauna work?
Toxins are the primary driver of fatigue and disease today. We are exposed to toxins daily, so it’s important to practice daily detoxification to remove unwanted toxins – especially if you struggle with stress, sleep issues, weight issues, hormone imbalance, a weak immune system, skin issues or circulation problems.
Infrared saunas are one of the most powerful, proven tools to remove toxins from the body: heavy metals, pesticides, glyphosate and chemicals are all excreted from the fat cells into the sweat. In addition, a single infrared sauna session can burn 200-600 calories an hour!
Sauna treatments help reduce chronic inflammation in the body— inflammation that leads to the production of harmful proteins and increased risk of all-cause mortality … including heart disease and stroke.
Many aspects of health were shown to influence longevity in the study on sauna … including heart health, blood pressure, metabolism, and more.

For instance, men who used a sauna two to three times per week had a 27% lower risk of cardiovascular disease than men who only used it once a week, while those who enjoyed a sauna four to seven times per week lowered their risk of cardiovascular disease by 50%. Even the risk of all-cause mortality declined by 40% among frequent sauna users, compared to infrequent users. See more on the study, here.
Relaxing in a sauna has the added benefit of protecting brain health. Among men who used a sauna four to seven times per week, the risk of dementia decreased by 66% -- and the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by 65% -- compared to men who used a sauna just once a week. See more on the study, here.
Mental health benefits are also apparent, with frequent sauna users (four to seven times per week) experiencing a 77% reduced risk of developing psychotic disorders. In terms of healthy aging, markers of inflammation are known to increase as you get older, but sauna usage helps reduce inflammation, including lowering levels of C-reactive protein.
Frequent sauna baths may also reduce the risk of both acute and chronic respiratory diseases while lowering blood pressure. Sauna baths lead to a significant increase in nitric oxide metabolites, with researchers suggesting that this increased production of nitric oxide may lead to improved vascular relaxation and blood flow. I'm honestly surprised that sauna use isn't more common in our Western culture.
I know it's not free ... but people have cars, TVs, refrigerators, phones and computers ... they should also have access to a sauna. The ones we have in our offices come with EMF protection, including red light therapy, and even electrically grounds you while you're inside.
It's like the ultimate slam dunk of stacking your healing time efficiently. I even read in the sauna to maximize my time management further.
The science proves there's literally nothing more worth it if you want to be alive as long as possible.
